The Highjinks and Capers Society - Shamanic Hip-Hop, Poetry and satirical news...

Please investigate

www.belowthebelt.bravehost.com

The Below the Belt website originated as a website to promote my music and my club nights but has evolved into a website to promote wisdom, love and creativity. It is the home of The Highjinks and Capers Society. The THC Society is a collective of artists, rappers, poets and performers who are actively creating positive change in their environment. This is achieved through art focussing on environmental, political, tribal and/or shamanic subjects. I have the support of Peace Not War, Tribal Voices and Planet Art Network Bristol.
The THC Society plans to start making satirical videos for internet distribution soon.

The Creative Burst page has an archive of much of my poetry as well as quotes from many of the people who have influenced me.

My name is Kevin Panton, I am a Conscious Hip-Hop artist and poet. My influences include ancient Mayan philosophy, theology, shamanism, Taoism, war, Aldous Huxley, William Blake, and Terrence McKenna. Most of my ideals crystalised during my English Literature and Philosophy degree at Keele University although I am constantly evolving. By Conscious Hip-Hop I mean Hip-Hop that is concerned with eternal rather
than superficial subjects, I do not wish to be associated with Hip-Hop artists as most mainstream Hip-Hop today is terrible.

I'm a romantic (in the figurative as well as historical definition),
anti-capitalist, "New School Shaman" so you can imagine the sentimentsof most contemporary Hip-Hop - which is often derogatory to women and often focuses on material wealth - do not sit well with me. I was writing poetry before I started writing song lyrics since 1991 (since I was eleven years old), I have been performing since I was 16 but as I was performing Hip-Hop until recently and I have only been performing my poetry since 2004.

I have performed at The Big Green Gathering, The Kwestival, Unity Works 2012, St Georges Theatre, The Blag Club in Notting Hill, and The Oneness Festival. I am a
'culture chameleon' performing at festivals, night clubs and squat parties.

I am already respected in the underground UK Hip-Hop scene under the alias KP (Knowledge is Power). For my poetry I have dropped the alias Knowledge is Power as I have understood that knowledge is necessarily subjective and power is not necessarily desirable.

Is it possible to make shamanic Hip-Hop?
Few people would consider sampling Handels Messiah, Shpongle and Bill Hicks for a Hip-Hop track. Few people can imagine how that would sound with Biggie and Mobb Deep samples.
But what if there was a continual bell ringing harmoniously throughout which happened to be Ashera Hart (the sound healer's) tuning fork for the tone of Oneness? But what if the bassline was also sampled from Ashera Hart, the bassline being NASA's recording of the sound of the sun from outer space?
Shamanic Hip-Hop.
It's called Ascension, and you can get it temporarily from here
www.myspace.com/kpknowledgeispower
If you sign up to soundclick (for free) you can get it permanently from here www.soundclick.com/kpknowledgeispower

Oh and I'm not just going to massage my ego and big myslef up, I would also like to big up Ashera Hart - sound healer and Earth Goddess. I use her CD to clear my crystals, and you can find out all about her quite literally revolutionary production techniques here
www.theflame.net/products.htm

Once again I urge you to investigate The THC Society at
www.belowthebelt.bravehost.com as we intend to start making satirical videos for internet distribution by March.

Crumpled Napkin LIVE Friday Rocktober 7th @ Cafe Dud Nord!

Hey Kids

Over the past few months we’ve gotten a lot of concerned letters here at Crumpled Napkin central command:

“Where have you crumpled to my wayward napkin?”

Good Question…it’s classified. I’ll only say that Captain Creampuff’s sex change operation was a complete success, we’re all very proud of him.

“The wooden spoon industry has been crippled! Help us Crumpled Napkin, you’re our only hope!!!”

Take heart young Jedi, we hear your desperate cries…

“Who will touch me inappropriately and make me question my sexual orientation? Crumpled Napkin where are you?”

Never fear, little queer, because the Napkin is HERE!!!!!!!!!

That’s right kids; all of your prayers have been answered…well except for that one…(you sick puppy)

Prepare yourselves! Dig those Depend Undergarments out of your closet! Let that old lady out of the basement! Sterilize your ball gags and penis extension apparatuses!! Strap them on to the recently emancipated granny!!! Ride her like the dirty pony she is! Yeeeeeeha!

Er…uh…I digress.

Anyway the point is: Your favorite band. That sensational serviette! The one true, tree pulp troubadour! That 100% original, super absorbing super group: Crumpled Napkin will be HEADLINING this Friday (October 7th) at Café Du Nord!

No shit! I’m serious.

You heard me bitch…back in the basement with you! Sorry for the interruption, the old bag was getting a little uppity.

So yeah, and this is no ordinary show, not by a long shot. This legendary performance will mark not only the return of Crumpled Napkin (and the very first appearance of the official Crumpled Napkin Go Go Dancers!) but also the return of the Mondo Porno Party to bonny olde San Francisco. There will be so much eye-popping, raunchy entertainment at this little shindig; your swollen genitals will have to get their own cab home.

The theme this year is “Horror Show”. So, Café Du Nord will be transformed into a naughty haunted house. If you wear a slutty and/or horror related costume you will get $5 off at the door! Fuck yeah! Do it!

The night will begin with a screening of “Slaughter Disc” a twisted tale of macabre erotica! Then there will be fabulously dirty rock by local favorites: Wood, Charm School Dropouts and Mauve Velour!

Interspersed within the debouched madness on stage will be burlesque performances so enticing they will make your bung dribble like a Harlem Globetrotter! Featuring: Spectacular Spectacular, Zombie Pinup Girls, and Bombshell Betty. As if this weren’t enough, I’ve saved the best part for last.

It wouldn’t be Mondo Porno without…wait for it…. FREE PORN!

That’s right FREE PORN! DVDs, magazines, vibrators, toys of all shapes and sizes. Titty fucking Christ on a cracker, this night will rule most triumphantly. Excuse me, I have to go down to the basement for a minute, I’m so fired up.

I am trying to get my band, Plastination, onto the list of bands to recomend, but I'm a bit confused.

We have a tribe set up, but when I search for our band on the recomended band page, we come up as a recomendation from someone else. (Which is cool.) But, I can't add a photo to that listing or edit it or anything.

On top of that, i don't understand where I should be recomending our band. Do I just tell people to go search for us and review us?

Sorry I am so confused. I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks!

There was another post somewhere that there was East Bay access on a different chanel. Is that true for all shows? or was it perhaps specific for that show only?

Help! I want my Tribe TV in the East Bay!

TWANG FEVER! Deke Dickerson (rockabilly) / The Famous (alt.country)

Hello TribeTV fans... Your host Laurence will be playing with his band The Famous at 12 Galaxies this Wednesday. Don't miss it!

TWANG FEVER!
Wednesday, February 16 2005
Deke Dickerson (10:30)
The Famous (9:30)
12 Galaxies, 2565 Mission St, San Francisco
21+, $8

DEKE DICKERSON
If you haven’t heard Deke Dickerson, then you haven’t heard the finest rockabilly/country/surf picker this side of the Mississippi. Far more than just a rockabilly revivalist, he pushes the envelope by expertly drawing from virtually every 20th-century musical genre: country, rhythm and blues, western swing, rockabilly, surf instrumentals, ghostly ballads, and pedal-to-the-metal rock 'n' roll. He plays a double-neck Mosrite on a couple tunes, and a futuristic double-neck baritone guitar with blinking lights that looks like it came off an old Star Trek set on another song. It’s beyond cool.
THE FAMOUS
Girded by the raw sounds of '50s-era country, but imbued with the spirit of The Pixies and other post-punk pioneers, The Famous forge powerful tunes that combine the intense desperation of X, the sincere melancholy of Hank Williams Sr. and the interstellar psychobilly of the Reverend Horton Heat.

Tomorrow night's episode is a really cool one, sort of an alternative editing/directing tinge that I definitely liked.

Bands to be featured on this show:

"The Famous" and
"Shawna Virago and the Deadly Nightshades"

Location: The Rainbow Grocery Coop.

You will be able to stream the show in a couple of days from here:

Advertising Tribe TV in the Mission District?

What the hell?

The 12 Galaxies is an aight venue. However the mission district encompasses everything local san franciscans hate about out of staters. It's jammed packed with this ever expanding looser hipster croud that thinks it's cool not to shower because they have a trust fund. Maybe the mission encompasses a large population on Tribe.net. However, it does not represent diversity and community which are probably two of the most important aspects of Tribe.net. If you grew up in San Francisco you were probably witness to the diversity that existed in the city through neighborhood like the mission, the TL, the haight, hayes valley, noe valley, and to some extent the o.m.i. heights area. After the Dot Com crapola the diversity of the city dwindled and now the above mentioned neighborhood are slowly but surely become a poser LA/NYC hangout. Let's not advertise Tribe as if it represents this crime against diversity.

Three Tribe TV alums -- The Famous, Invisible Cities, and the Girlfriend Experience -- rock the Rickshaw Stop on Jan 13th to celebrate the official release of "Light, Sweet Crude" the debut album from The Famous.

THE FAMOUS -- CD Release Party!
with
The Girlfriend Experience
The Invisible Cities
Toshio Hirano

Thursday, January 13, 2005
at the Rickshaw Stop
155 Fell St @ Van Ness, San Francisco
Doors: 8:00, Show: 9:00
cover: $5

Indie/americana artists "The Famous" celebrate the official release of their debut album "Light, Sweet Crude" Thursday, January 13 at the Rickshaw Stop.

SF Weekly Review:
"Here's a band that doesn't live up to its name -- at least, not yet. The Famous plays no-frills country music of the Bakersfield Sound variety (that is, the old-fashioned Buck Owens style, a genre now known as "classic country") mixed up with some good old indie rock. So the Famous isn't famous, except among those who've heard the group in action, because practically everyone who's listened to the band's cheese-free, slightly punkified hillbilly jangle thinks it's the greatest. Here's the kicker: A common sight at Famous shows is a guy walking away afterward shaking his head and saying, "I don't even like country music. But they were really good!" Whether fame finds Victor Barclay and Laurence Scott or not, you can be one of those head-shaking guys."
-- SF Weekly

THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE
The Girlfriend Experience sound comes from a variety of seemingly conflicting musical notions. Can two minute pop songs co-exist with 6-minute psychedelic bursts of rage, and a shoe-gazer meets stoner rock aesthetic? Damn straight! While The Girlfriend Experience sound can seem, at first, difficult to put one's finger squarely on, common comparisons have been made to Jeff Buckley, Queens Of The Stone Age, Catherine Wheel, Ride, Joy Division, Blur and Bauhaus.

INVISIBLE CITIES
The Invisible Cities is a San Francisco-based band that makes incandescent rough-around-the-edges sometimes-quiet sometimes-loud rock'n'roll pop music with wiry guitars and boy/girl harmonies. Taking influences from Pavement and the harder songs of The Pixies, The Invisible Cities make a great lo-fi racket with simple but devastatingly catchy Breeders-like songwriting.

TOSHIO HIRANO
Toshio Hirano is from Toykyo Japan. He really, really likes Jimmy Rodgers and other country music from the '40s. He strums a guitar and sings with the cutest accent. He sings old time country in Engrish. It's adorable.

Ideas

Hey Eric,

Just an idea and a thought -- perhaps tribeTV should film some of the actual tribe events that happen within our community.

For example, I'm in "SF restaurants" and I host a lot of foodie outings to try out new restaurants or different ethnic cuisines.

Or "For the Love of Sushi" tribe I know the moderate hosts events there too to try out different sushi places and have different types of sushi if we were to gather it in a tiny group.

There are so many SF events that a tribe member utilizes tribe to get other tribers involved or to go to.

So that's my .02.

:)

We need volunteers who are willing to come to our building or meet at a specified location to do a 30 sec-1 minute vignette that is basically transforming a Tribe.net website listing into a television worthy clip.

So recommend your favorite band, bar or whatever. Ask for a roomate, ask for your lost cell phone, ask for a good place for dance lessons. Basically anything you see in our listings, reviews or recommendations here on the site is game to be filmed.

Please offer your services in this thread if interested.

Second Shoot Debrief

The second shoot went really well, lasting a couple more hours than last time but extremely fun nevertheless.

A special thanks to Robert from 12 Galaxies for letting us shoot there in the early morn; I don't know if he'll ever forgive us.

Shinobu and Felonious were great; Felonious even did a beat box battle in their interview that should make for some great entertainment.

The Tribe.net roof shoot was a bit windy but Bohemian Knuckleboogie were the right cats to compensate for any weather road bumps.

Brad Wolfe and the Moon howled a hairy howl (what the hell am I talking about) and finished the night off right jamming before a sunset and skyscaper audience.

Thanks all and stay posted for dates and details of our first show and next shoot. This weekend we will be taking off due to the holiday and resuming on December 4th.

Hello, I think this is a great idea for the site. I am a television production major who is the program director and producer of an alternative art/music/sport show on our campus television station. I live in Minnesota but am very interested in producing features or shorts for tribe.net TV. Also, do you know what your distribution will be yet for the show? Can I air the show on our campus television station? It airs to about 88,000 viewers. thanks,
kris
