The Below the Belt website originated as a website to promote my music and my club nights but has evolved into a website to promote wisdom, love and creativity. It is the home of The Highjinks and Capers Society. The THC Society is a collective of artists, rappers, poets and performers who are actively creating positive change in their environment. This is achieved through art focussing on environmental, political, tribal and/or shamanic subjects. I have the support of Peace Not War, Tribal Voices and Planet Art Network Bristol.
The THC Society plans to start making satirical videos for internet distribution soon.

The Creative Burst page has an archive of much of my poetry as well as quotes from many of the people who have influenced me.

My name is Kevin Panton, I am a Conscious Hip-Hop artist and poet. My influences include ancient Mayan philosophy, theology, shamanism, Taoism, war, Aldous Huxley, William Blake, and Terrence McKenna. Most of my ideals crystalised during my English Literature and Philosophy degree at Keele University although I am constantly evolving. By Conscious Hip-Hop I mean Hip-Hop that is concerned with eternal rather
than superficial subjects, I do not wish to be associated with Hip-Hop artists as most mainstream Hip-Hop today is terrible.

I'm a romantic (in the figurative as well as historical definition),
anti-capitalist, "New School Shaman" so you can imagine the sentimentsof most contemporary Hip-Hop - which is often derogatory to women and often focuses on material wealth - do not sit well with me. I was writing poetry before I started writing song lyrics since 1991 (since I was eleven years old), I have been performing since I was 16 but as I was performing Hip-Hop until recently and I have only been performing my poetry since 2004.

I have performed at The Big Green Gathering, The Kwestival, Unity Works 2012, St Georges Theatre, The Blag Club in Notting Hill, and The Oneness Festival. I am a
'culture chameleon' performing at festivals, night clubs and squat parties.

I am already respected in the underground UK Hip-Hop scene under the alias KP (Knowledge is Power). For my poetry I have dropped the alias Knowledge is Power as I have understood that knowledge is necessarily subjective and power is not necessarily desirable.

Is it possible to make shamanic Hip-Hop?
Few people would consider sampling Handels Messiah, Shpongle and Bill Hicks for a Hip-Hop track. Few people can imagine how that would sound with Biggie and Mobb Deep samples.
But what if there was a continual bell ringing harmoniously throughout which happened to be Ashera Hart (the sound healer's) tuning fork for the tone of Oneness? But what if the bassline was also sampled from Ashera Hart, the bassline being NASA's recording of the sound of the sun from outer space?
Shamanic Hip-Hop.
It's called Ascension, and you can get it temporarily from here

If you sign up to soundclick (for free) you can get it permanently from here www.soundclick.com/kpknowledgeispower

Oh and I'm not just going to massage my ego and big myslef up, I would also like to big up Ashera Hart - sound healer and Earth Goddess. I use her CD to clear my crystals, and you can find out all about her quite literally revolutionary production techniques here

Once again I urge you to investigate The THC Society at
www.belowthebelt.bravehost.com as we intend to start making satirical videos for internet distribution by March.
